The Yoga Shack Lembongan: at Home within its Natural Surroundings

We are very fortunate to be based on such a beautiful island, which is both natural and unspoilt. Seaweed farming and fishing are still the main sources of income and the majority of the island is still covered in mangroves, coconut trees and natural forest. We hope very much that Lembongan will stay this way, for the enjoyment of generations to come.

The Yoga Shack was placed right between two temples, which is a very auspicious location to the Balinese, as it can draw on the sacred energies running between the two points. It has a wonderfully relaxing atmosphere once inside; the perfect place to explore and deepen your yoga practice.

Apart from the foundations and a few thumb tacks in the floor, the Yoga Shack is made entirely from renewable materials; namely bamboo and traditional grass thatch. Bamboo is the fastest growing plant on the planet, sometimes growing over 1m a day. Unlike hardwoods which take 30-50 years to be ready to harvest, bamboo takes just 3-5 years. It can grow without pesticides or chemicals and produces more oxygen than a forest of the same size. We love bamboo here at the Secret Garden and favour its use as much as possible.

Here are some other ways in which we try to minimise our impact on the environment:

Encourage guests to recycle plastic by offering water refills
Compost all organic waste from the kitchen for use on the garden
Collect rainwater for cleaning the ponds
No longer provide plastic straws with drinks
Shop locally as much as possible and ensure that all of our staff are from the islands
